Engagement Safari
The story of our "Engagement Safari"
I implemented this wedding add-on after a work study with Ilija and
Rita Galic in 1989.
The main reason was to get a much larger initial deposit from my clients,
and to provide them with images for their immediate use and to put personal
examples of our work in their possession right away.
This session is shot in a place of their choice, I usually use Cox Arborethum
or one of the other Metro Parks. I have gone to many of the neighboring
universities for the Safari when the "question" was actually popped
there or the clients went to school there.
I explain to them that I want them to act as if I'm not there and to
be themselves, generally half of the shoot is un-posed.
The sessions usually run about an hour and half. I shoot a 220 roll
of each color and B/W. I sometimes use Infra-red film also.
For the fee's charged, the clients receive a framed 16x20 portrait,
a matted and framed image for signing at the reception, and a Art Leather
Folio with up to eight images.
Village Photography, owned by Warren Gregory,
opened its doors in Lebanon, Ohio, in 1982. The majority of our business
the first two years was Sports Photography.
In 1983 I started assisting a wedding photographer in Cincinnati while taking
courses at Winona and OIP in Dayton, Ohio. I did my first solo wedding in
April, 1984.
I met Bonnie Kennedy in 1986, moved my business to Dayton and married her
in 1987. We have gone from a home based business to a store front and back
to a home based facility. We moved into our current 2600 sq.ft. facility
in November, 1992.
We have primarily been a wedding and portrait studio, but have done some
commercial and fine-art scenics.
I became a member of our local affiliate,PPSO, in 1993 and served on its
Board from 1996 thru 2001. I served on the Board of Directors of PPO for
five years and chaired their annual Fall Conference in 2002.
I entered print competition for the first time at Mid-East States in 1997
and received my Master of Photography Degree in Las Vegas on July 29th,
2003.
We will soon be re-locating for the last time, as we are moving to the Outer
Banks of North Carolina. Our next home/studio will be eight tenths of a
mile from the beach at Kitty Hawk,N.C. Once there we will primarily be a
family portrait business while expanding our fine-art scenic collection.
