November is the PPSO's annual Print competition meeting. It's a wonderful chance to get a better handle on what judges expect of a merit print....and a chance to "pre-flight" your favorite images prior to the March convention. Watching and listening to the discussion is really informative. It's well worth putting our egos to one side in order to get a more objective appraisal of our work. Another reason for entering is to get "calibrated" with the judges. It often happens that my own evaluation of a print will be miles apart from the panel's assessment. What's going on here? Am I nuts? (well, maybe just a little). Having a chance to evaluate work and then learn why your view did or didn't align with theirs is REALLY worthwhile. So here's an opportunity for all of us to do just that. Attached is an image that will be submitted in the Fall competition. Go ahead and score it, using the 12 criteria the judges use, and send your scores in to Bob Strausburg. He'll tally them....and then when the image is judged in November, we'll have a discussion of exactly why the print scored as it did by our group and by the judges. The maker of the image will remain anonymous (unless it goes merit, of course!) |
