Recognizing a Merit Image
The advantages of print competition outweigh the disadvantages. Jim's program will teach you to think like a PPA judge. Jim will discuss the 12 Elements of a Merit Image. He will explain how to prepare your images for print competition such as cropping, dodging and burning, composition, print enhancement, printing, mounting and much more.

Jim and his wife Debra opened their portrait, wedding and commercial studio in 1988. Jim is PPA Certified, Master of Photography, Master of Electronic Imaging, Photographic Craftsman and EI Certified. Jim has had several Loan Collection images and Epcot selections. He has placed in the Top Ten Indiana photographers the past six years. Jim's image "Majestic" was selected to receive the Foveon Award at the 2001 Mid-East States Regional Convention, then was selected to be a part of the American Society of Photographers' Photographic Hall of Fame. Majestic was then selected to appear on the 2001 Loan Collection Book cover. In 2003 Jim's image "In the Beginning" scored a 100 at the Professional Photographers of Indiana's annual print competition and was later accepted to the ASP Master's Traveling Loan Collection. He is a three time Photographer of the Year at the Indianapolis Professional Photographers Guild. He is a two time winner of the Professional Photographers of Indiana Platinum Award for the highest scoring image. In 2004, he received the Indiana ASP State Elite Award for the highest scoring image and was the Electronic Imager of the Year. In 2003, Jim won the Photographer of the Year title at the Mid-East States Regional print exhibit in Columbus, Ohio.
