The main benefit of membership in PPSO is the opportunity to learn
from the industry's finest talents and from among ourselves.
Our monthly programs include lectures,demonstrations, tours of photography
studios and labs, and visits to galleries.
Membership in the PPSO provides the opportunity to meet with other
professionals and learn. You will be able to exchange on informal basis
new
ideas on techniques, equipment, and promotions. Ever got stuck on a problem?
You will be surprised at the willing assistance other members will give
you.
Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month, at Chantrell's Restaurant,
20 Commercial Way, Springboro, Ohio.

We begin with social time at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7 PM, and the program at
8 PM.
The price for the meal and program is $15. Our programs are presented by
visiting
photographers, usually Master Photographers, willing to share their knowledge.
Our monthly newsletter, "The Focus", is published to keep our
members current
on upcoming events. Free classified advertising space is available to members.
The newsletter is a great way for members to exchange ideas.
Our extensive video library is available to all members for a defined
period of
time at no charge. The video library includes instructional tapes on lighting,
portraiture, marketing, weddings, and commercial photography. These tapes
are valuable
tools in your growth as a photographer.
Fellowship and contact with other photographers from the area is certainly
a great benefit
to belonging to PPSO. We have many social events throughout the year, which
afford the
opportunity for you to know other professionals and competitors on a personal
level.
Through your new social contacts and your participation in our organization,
you will discover a wealth of new friends.
Occasionally PPSO devotes an entire meeting to print critiques by fellow
members.
This critique can be invaluable in helping you to improve your customer
work and your
competition prints.
The highlight of the PPSO year is our print competition in November.
This event is a
challenge to all whom enter and a positive learning experience as well.
At print
competition we learn to improve our daily work while preparing for state
and national
competition.
As you get to know your fellow PPSO members, you will find the organization
a great place
for referrals. Referrals are given and received as one develops the confidence,
respect,
and friendship of other members.
Membership is available to full time and aspiring photographers,
employees of a studio, photography students, and industry related professionals.
Dues range from $40-$80 per year depending on your classification.
In 1972 a group of photographers from the Miami Valley found an organization
that would meet on a regular basis. The purpose of the organization was
to create
better professional and social relationships for its members, to exchange
thought and
opinion between members, to improve the technical skill of each member,
and to promote
to the public the value of professional photography.
The name Professional Photographers of Southwestern Ohio was chosen and
the
Constitution was written. Bill Dumbauld was elected the first president.
From the original nine charter members, we have grown to over forty-five
members.
This award is sponsored each year at the Professional Photographers of
Ohio state
convention to honor the best illustrative print in the state. Bill was a
founding member
and we are proud to present this award in his honor.
PPSO is a professional and aspiring photography organization, which is
based in Dayton,
Ohio. We draw our membership from as far away as Greenville, and Leesburg,
Ohio,
to Indianapolis, Indiana.
